Lenten Devotional - Friday, Mar. 26

Day 33 - Friday

March 26

I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.  John 15:5-6

Again in this passage we see the theme of life and its source. Jesus has already told his disciples that he is the way, the truth, and the life. Now he illustrates how we can share in this life that he offers us: by being connected to Jesus as a branch is connected to the main trunk of a grapevine. Jesus is the source of the everlasting life that God wants to give us; it flows from Jesus into us. Branches that are not connected to the vine whither away because they are not connected to the source of life; they are thrown into the fire because they are dead. The good fruit that God wants to produce in our lives comes directly from our connection to the vine.

To Do

Reflect: How are you maintaining and strengthening your connection with Jesus, as a branch to the vine? What is the good fruit that God wants to produce in your life? Ask for God's help and guidance.
