Lenten Devotional - Monday, Mar. 8

Day 17 - Monday

March 8

Read Psalm 90:1-6

1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place

    in all generations.

2 Before the mountains were brought forth,

or ever you had formed the earth and the world,

from everlasting to everlasting you are God.  Psalm 90:1-2

This psalm goes on to remind us that we are short-lived creatures, whose lives are like grass in the field or like a fleeting dream compared to God's eternal nature. While this emphasis on our mortality can seem somewhat depressing at first, the psalm is actually intended to have the complete opposite effect: on our own we have only a future of dust, but we belong to the Creator and Redeemer God who is everlasting and has promised to provide His people with a safe dwelling place for all of eternity.

While this eternal dwelling is certainly a promise for the future, after our earthly lives have ended, God promises to be our safe dwelling place right now in the midst of the lives we are living.

To Do

Spend five or ten minutes today in silence and solitude, enjoying the rest and safety that God provides for your soul.
