Lenten Devotional - Thursday, Mar. 25

Day 32 - Thursday

March 25

Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.  Hebrews 4:14-16

The role of the high priest of Israel was to represent the people before God, to offer prayers for forgiveness and blessing to God on behalf of God's people. Jesus Christ fulfills this role as mediator in a way that no other human being ever could because he is the only person who is without sin. Rather than being set apart from us, Jesus' humanity draws him closer to us; he has experienced what we experience and he has been tempted as we are tempted. Jesus understands what it is like to be human, and he sympathizes with our weaknesses - our vulnerabilities, our fears, our desires. Because we know he loves us, we can come to him with confidence and know that he will forgive our sins and give us his grace and mercy.

To Do

Boldly approach the throne of grace: confess your sin and receive forgiveness; ask for strength in your trials; and pray that Jesus will give you what you need today.
