Lenten Devotional - Tuesday, Mar. 16

Day 24 - Tuesday

March 16

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.  Romans 12:1-2

Sacrificial offerings in the Old Testament included bringing the best one had - the best herd animals or the firstfruits of the harvest - and offering them to the Lord in worship. This was a way of saying, "All that I have is from you, Lord, and now I offer back to you the first and the best, because you are more important to me than any of it, and I trust you to provide." In the New Testament, the apostle Paul calls us to take a much more radical step: Offer your own body to God as a living sacrifice. From this point forward, your body will belong to God and will be used for God's purposes.

During this season of Lent, as we seek to follow Christ more closely, what would it look like for you to offer your body as a living sacrifice to God?

To Do

Find a comfortable place, perhaps lying down (where you won't fall asleep!) and offer the different parts of your body to God - your eyes, ears, mouth, hands, feet, etc. Ask God how you can honor and serve God with each part of your body.
