Lenten Devotional - Wednesday, Mar. 10
Day 19 - Wednesday
March 10
Read Philippians 1:3-11
3 I thank my God every time I remember you, 4 constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, 5 because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:3-6
There are many different metaphors for the new life we have in Christ - a journey, a race, a new birth, and more. The image of a construction project is an effective one because it conjures up the excitement of something new being put together piece by piece, along with the anticipation as we wonder what the finished product will be like. We are each works in progress during this lifetime, which is encouraging - God isn't finished with us yet; no matter how long we have been Christians, God still has good work that He wants to do in our lives. And that is the other encouraging aspect of this: God is the one who is overseeing the construction work, so we don't have to do it all ourselves; our part is to pay attention and cooperate with God, making ourselves available to be constructed and re-constructed into the people God wants us to be.
To Do
Find a piece of construction material, such as a brick or a small piece of wood or just a nail, and place it somewhere to remind you that you are a work in progress and God is continuing His good work in you.
