Lenten Devotional - Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday

April 4

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again."  Luke 24:1-7

Christ is risen! Christ is risen, indeed!

The tomb could not contain him. Death does not have the last word. Jesus rose from the dead just as he said he would, and in doing so he won the victory over sin and death. Light overcame darkness, love overcame hate, and life overcame death.

We serve a risen Jesus, the one who promised us, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die." Because he lives, we know that we will live.

The same God who raised Jesus says to us, "Behold, I make all things new." The power of resurrection and new life is a gift that begins in our lives now, as God is renewing our hearts and redeeming our lives so that we can be Jesus' representatives in this world.

Christ is risen! Christ is risen, indeed! And because he lives, we also have new life.
